WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as important for the latter due to the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

The upgrader can be found in every major city, and can be accessed at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the item level, but they will always be cheaper than buying new gear. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool or armor. The button will show the item's next level of upgrade, when there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item upgrader mod is upgraded to a certain level, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

Item upgraders can be found in many places on the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount and the chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. After a player has upgraded to a certain level of item upgrade level upgrade (Read the Full Posting) for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This is true even if those items are from a different set of equipment.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available once certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in four ranks.

First, you should know that the crests can only be purchased for item level Upgrade equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by completing dungeons and raids in all difficulties to get lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them properly. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount if all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
