WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade item also boosts an unspecified substat.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor using a button, which displays an image of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrades varies based on the Item level upgrade slot and the current level of the item level upgrade and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of both currency types.

Crests

Another significant change is that crests have one usage and it's crucial to use them properly. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
