Like other iRobots with premium features (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floor plans and eliminate household obstacles like furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature which boosts the robot's power when it detects a lot of dirt on the carpet to get it cleaned quickly.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great deal particularly if your home or office has a lot of bare floors and you want to save some money. It's also quiet and works while you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, best robot hoover but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is similar to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could clean an entire home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did a great job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robot vacuums with mop vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's compact models this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The newest model from iRobot is among the most intelligent model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's the only robotic automatic vacuum and mop/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally impressive and attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuums with mop vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaner that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin, refills the water tank, and cleans and dries mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they are.

If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This lets you tell the robot which area of your home must be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be extremely useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you might imagine from its price. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to set up the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also grants access to many features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It is equipped with a powerful 8000 Pascal suction, as well as intelligent combs to remove pet hair. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD offers a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It is more appealing in its design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute little eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
