Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases item level upgrade level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create the enchantments.

You can upgrade items your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

The cost of upgrades will vary based on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, purchasing a similar piece from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be used on any tool, weapon or armor. button, which will display a preview of the Best item upgrade when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current level of the item. For instance weapons cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a number of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain degree it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon as well as the possibility of obtaining a new recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only accessible via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a drawback.

In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This applies even if those items are from a different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is affixed to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and that every rank has different requirements for upgrading. The most basic and straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one may require as many as 20 crests based on the type of equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulty for items of higher tier, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their gear up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the highest-quality gear that you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
