The b1 license is a special license that permits drivers of light vehicles to operate them. Typically, this means three-wheelers and quad bikes. However, it can also apply to microcars. This kind of license requires a lot of practice for both the theory and practical tests.

The Secretary of State for Transport will promulgate a statutory instrument on the 16th September 2021 to permit all holders of a category B license to obtain the BE without the need to pass the BE test. This will permit them to drive vehicles up to a maximum MAM of 3,500kg with trailer.
