If you're a lover of coffee then you'll want to try out the shops selling coffee beans. These stores provide a large selection of whole beans from all across the globe. These stores also sell unique trinkets, kitchenware and other items.

Some of these shops offer subscriptions for their coffee beans. Some shops sell coffee beans in large quantities.

Porto Rico Importing Co.

Veteran coffee retailer specializing international brews and a variety of loose teas

The aroma of freshly roasted beans fills the air once you walk into this West Village shop. The shelves are lined with jars, sacks and dark brown beans, along with tea-making equipment, highest rated coffee beans accessories and sugar.

The first restaurant opened in 1907, Porto Rico was founded by Italian immigrant Patsy Albanese. At the time, Greenwich Village was seeing an influx of Italian immigrants who set up establishments to cater to their dietary needs. Albanese named the shop after the famous Puerto Rican Coffee she imported and sold - a beverage that was so well-known in the moment that the Pope would drink it.

Today, Porto Rico sells 130 varieties of beans from all over the globe at three locations in New York City including their Bleecker Street location, Essex Market and online. The company roasts its own beans and offers wholesale distribution to 350 restaurants in NYC and Brooklyn.

Peter Longo, The coffee Bean shop current owner and president of the business, grew up above the bakery of his family located on Bleecker Street where his father operated Porto Rico. He continues to run the shop in a similar fashion as his father did and grandfather.

Sey Coffee

It is located along Grattan Street in Morgantown, Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood, Sey Coffee is both a coffee shop and roaster. Tobin Polk, Lance Schnorenberg and their co-founders, who are 33 years old, started roasting coffee in the loft on the fourth floor, just across the street in the year 2011. The name was Lofted Coffee. Local clients included Greenpoint's Budin and Soho cart services Peddler and Peddler.

Sey's focus on buying micro-lots, or even whole harvests from single farmers has earned it the praise of New York City coffee enthusiasts. In the past, Sey bought a six-bag micro lot of Danilo Dones Sitio Catucai from Brazil's Espirito-Santo region. The beans were hand-picked at peak ripeness and floated to eliminate any defects and then dried fermented for about 36 hours before being dried on the farm. The result is a cup that is fragrant with hints of melons and berries.

Sey's dedication to holistically improving the well-being of staff, growers and customers extends beyond the retail store. It utilizes biodegradable disposables as well as composts, preventing waste from landfills and turning it into agents that reduce harmful greenhouse gases and nourish soil. It also reduces gratuity. This lets baristas concentrate on their work and support their livelihoods.

La Cabra

La Cabra is a modern specialty coffee brand that was established in Aarhus, Denmark in 2012. They began with a small shop and a dedicated team. Their honest and creative approach to delivering a truly exceptional coffee experience has earned them a following, not just in their hometown however, but across the globe.

La Carba has a rigorous method of identifying their ideal beans, going through hundreds of different lots every year to locate the ones that meet their standards. They then roast them very light, adjusting the desired flavor profile. This results in clearer and more vibrant taste.

The East Village store, which opened in the month of October last year, has been praised for its high-quality pour overs, as well as the baked goods that are overseen by Jared Sexton. He previously worked at Bien Cuit, Dominique Ansel as well as other coffee establishments.

The shop is equipped with the La Marzocco modbar, and the cups and plates are made by Wurtz ceramics in Horsens, a father and son studio. In a recent Q&A interview with Atlanta Coffee Shops, General Manager Ian Walla reveals that La Cabra serves approximately 250 different types of coffee beans of coffees each year, and usually has seven or eight varieties available at any given moment.

The Roasting Plant Coffee

The Roasting Plant is the only multi-unit retailer of coffee that roasts on-site and brews on demand, with each cup of coffee roasted and brewed according to your preferences in less than one minute. It searches countries far and far to find the finest specialty beans, which are directly sourced that provide customers with a choice and quality.

Their onsite roaster is an automatic fluid bed machine which is different from classic drum machines used in UK coffee shops. The beans are blown in a heated box with high-velocity and circulating air. This keeps the beans suspended and ensures a consistent roasting rate.

coffeee-logo-300x100-png.pngI tried the Sumatran Coffee and it was incredibly rich and velvety with a smooth taste. Dark chocolate was evident from the aroma, and as you sipped the coffee, you could taste subtle citrus fruit flavours.

The roasted coffee will then be whisked into the Eversys Super-Automatic Brewing Machines, and brewed to your specifications in under a minute. Customers can choose from nine single origins and different blends.

Parlor Coffee

Parlor Coffee was founded in 2012 in a barbershop with a single group espresso machine. It has since evolved to become a burgeoning roastery, whose beans are available in top cafes and restaurants as well as home brewers in every city. Parlor is dedicated to sourcing high-quality beans from across the globe each of which has been through a long and difficult journey before reaching the hands of its roasters.

The owners, who are self-described as "passionate about the craft and believe that a good cup of coffee beans sale should be available to everyone," have created a space that is grounded, with chalkboards, compost bins, up-cycled hand-made products, and low-frills decor.

They roast and make their own blends and single-origins (there were six on the menu when I was there) However, they also hold cuppings on Sundays, and are open to the public. Imagine it as a brewery tasting area--you can smell and taste the beans in the ground. They vary from earthy to chocolaty (one was almost like tomato!). It's a bit off the beaten path, but worth the journey.
