If your current latch plate is a rectangular shape, switch it over to the round one so that the latch is able to hook into the strike plate in a manner that makes the handle more comfortable to operate.

The first step is to unhook the screw that is holding the old latch plate. These screws can be quite tight and will require some force to loosen. If you can, it might be beneficial to have another person assist you with this task.

Once the screws are removed, the latch plate will slide out of the door easily. If the latch plate is stuck or refuses to move, use a small hammer to scrape the edges. This will sometimes free the plate up.

If this is the case, follow the exact procedure to adjust the strike plate, but with a metal file instead of an hammer and chisel.

Take off the Latch

The latch is a curved metal piece that slides into and out of a hole on the inside of your door handle repair. The latch is pushed forward when you turn the handle.
