World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.

Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This is the sum of all its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded.

The level of an item is a commonly used measurement of power and can be seen on all tooltips of items. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's an indicator of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock is possible using the level of the item.

On PC, you are able to view the item level by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are a variety of theories on how the item level is determined. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated using formulas that determine how valuable an item's stats really are. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and sockets have gems that increase the overall value of the item. This can result in a calculated value for the item's ilvl, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's real item level.

However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, because the size of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for example by adding an additional level to its haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

Item Stats

Item stats can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game utilizes them in various ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the Best item upgrader. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded several times at higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to alter the stats of an item. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item upgrader mod by the player and they come in all shapes and sizes. Affixes can do things like give the item level upgrade additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade menu pressing the green button. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item after it is upgraded. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However, all items will contain at least one stat within the same range, unless it's an item that is unique, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

This is another aspect that could be changed by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of item discoveries, the properties spawned on loot drops and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the initial game run than later ones since most players prefer higher weapon scaling and defenses over damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances that increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, with the default value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, like the weapon that is infused with hollow, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that causes damage by five percent. These items can be bought in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Item upgrades are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to stop players from losing their items if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have a base success rate of 25% and every item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

The item upgrade overlays are rendered above the items in the inventory. This could obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
